Letters to the Editor
Listed below are some of the letters that have been written to support Shawn Seliger's candidacy for Lee County Commission, District 5.

Advocate for Clean Water

Lee County needs a county commissioner like Shawn Seliger. He advocates reducing county spending and lowering taxes. Shawn Seliger has a history of protecting and supporting our natural environment. He was a board member of People United to Restore our Rivers and Estuaries (PURRE) and is a strong supporter of promoting clean water in Lee County.

The public realizes that Frank Mann has voted for 53 tax increases as a career politician and that he has taken plenty of money from development and mining interests during his numerous campaigns for elective office. Shawn Seliger is a life-long conservative who will bring fiscal responsibility and a responsible approach to growth to the Lee County Commission. I hope that you join me in supporting Shawn Seliger in the Republican primary August 26.

Stability Needed

I plan on supporting Shawn Seliger for Lee County Commission, District 5.

Shawn Seliger is a former teacher, former prosecutor and a private attorney. His negotiating skills will help build consensus and return stability to the Lee County Commission.

Shawn Seliger shows his concern about improving the quality of life by wanting to create more lanes on existing roads throughout Lee County. My family is tired of getting stuck on county roads in endless gridlock. With the price of gas today, it's good to see that someone is finally ready to do something about this problem and work to make Lee County better.

Shawn Seliger has my vote on Aug. 26!

Shawn Seliger for Lee County Commissioner, District 5

Elections are right around the corner, Aug. 26. You are going to vote? Aren't you? Your vote will make a difference.

Early voting in Cape Coral will be from Aug. 11 to Aug. 23, at the elections office located at 1031 S.E. 9th Place, #3, across from the county building. Do you know the candidates? Familiarize yourself with all the candidates by attending one of the many "Meet your candidates" meetings.

By attending such a meeting, I had the pleasure of meeting Shawn Seliger. Even though I'm not easily impressed, Mr. Seliger with his outgoing personality, and his knowledge of county government, made a believer out of me. Believer in what? Believer in his campaign slogan; "Let's make Lee County better!" The contraction Let's, meaning "let us," indicates that Shawn Seliger indeed wants us, the residents of Lee County, to be involved in all decision makings. Once elected, he will have town hall meetings, where all of us can express our thoughts and concerns; "together, "we can make Lee County a better place to live!" "Taxation with representation!" Shawn Seliger is committed and will fight to "cut waste" in county spending, thus reducing our taxes. Aren't all of us interested in lower taxes? You bet.

As Lee County Commissioner in District 5, Shawn Seliger has made it perfectly clear that he "will not" forget Cape Coral. He will work "hand in hand" with Cape Coral's city council and mayor to complete the Del Prado Extension, thus making evacuation easier in the event of a hurricane. He is also in favor of widening Pine Island Road. Bringing more commercial to Cape Coral is also very important; strengthening the commercial tax base, thus offsetting residential taxes.

When was the last time a county commissioner really showed interest in Cape Coral? Isn't it about time? When was the last time a county commissioner reduced taxes? Incumbent Frank Mann, did he reduce taxes? By asking numerous times for tax increases? How about saving us money by opposing the Midpoint bridge in Cape Coral? Increasing the cost from $75 million to $174 million? Think about it!

Who will listen and communicate "with us?" Who will work "hand in hand with us," making Lee County a better place to live for "all of us?"

The answer is perfectly clear: Shawn Seliger!

Please vote. Vote Shawn Seliger for Lee County Commissioner, District 5.

Show of Support for Seliger!

I am writing this letter to support Shawn Seliger for Lee County Commissioner, District 5.  Shawn is a board member of People United to Restore our Rivers and Estuaries (PURRE).  He will work hard to see that our water quality is improved and that our beaches and waterways become cleaner.  He will not betray the environment.   Shawn is also committed to the principle of bringing fiscal responsibility to Lee County and recognizes the need to get our local economy moving again.  I hope that all of your readers join me in supporting his campaign for Lee County Commissioner, District 5.

Vote Seliger!

As a retired businessman and a resident of Cape Coral for 23 years, I support Shawn Seliger for Lee County Commissioner, District 5. He (Shawn) understands that our economy needs tax relief and stimulus. Frank Mann has supported 53 tax increases and has ignored our struggling local economy. It's de'javu all over again if the voters of Lee County accept Mr. Mann's fiscal approach. Shawn Seliger will bring needed professionalism and negotiating skills to help build consensus within the board. Shawn Seliger understands that we need new, creative, and innovative approaches to get our economy moving again. Shawn is the right person at the right time to help turn things around.

A New Direction

I, for one, am tired of all the infighting that I hear about on the Lee County Commission.

I do not see any actions to bring the board together from the current District 5 representative.

Shawn Seliger is running for that seat for the right reasons. He wants to see a forward-thinking board that wants to help people, and he wants to stimulate our local economy.

Seliger not only points out that county spending is out of control and that our taxes must be lowered, but he plans to do something about it!

As an attorney, Seliger has the professionalism and skills needed to negotiate and bring this board together.

Without hesitation, he has my complete support on Aug. 26.

Seliger has Broad-Based Support

I am glad to support Shawn Seliger in his campaign for Lee County Commission, District 5.

Shawn is an active member of the community and has served Lee County in many ways. As a proud union member, I am excited to see that Shawn Seliger recently received the endorsement of the Southwest Florida Professional Firefighters and the Paramedics International Association of Firefighters Local 1826. Shawn has always been an ardent supporter of our firefighters and first responders. He will make sure that they have the resources to serve and protect the people of Lee County.

Shawn also has the support of countless individuals and business groups who trust his judgment and conservative principles. I am supporting his election on Aug. 26 and I hope you will too!

Advocate for Transportation

Recently, Shawn Seliger announced that he is running for Lee County Commission, District 5.  I am happy to support him.  He is a terrific person and conducts himself professionally.  Shawn wants to improve our quality of life, not maintain the status quo.  He is a forward thinking person who is willing to listen to people and options.  Shawn Seliger is advocating improving transportation in Lee County and has made this one of his top priorities.   Like Shawn, I believe that we can grow the economy and protect the environment.  These are not incompatible choices.  Shawn Seliger is a person who is capable of showing leadership to build consensus on the Lee County Commission.  I hope that you join his campaign to make Lee County better.

More Support for Seliger

My honored citizens of Lee County:

I'm a former member of the Republican Executive Committee of Lee County. For the past three years I have been working for the Department of Army, assisting at a remote training site that trains soldiers for the War on Terrorism. I'm pleased to report that, contrary to negative reports by CNN/NBC/CBS, the troops are predominantly high spirited and are willing to put their lives down in support of the people of this great nation.

I am supporting Shawn Seliger for Lee County Commissioner District 5 on Aug. 26. He is the first to stand up to the failed policies of "Good ol' Boy Chartered Member" Commissioner Mann. Frank Mann has voted for numerous tax increases and voted against tax relief last year while representing the people of Lee County. It's important to note that Commissioner Mann opposed and delayed the midpoint bridge project, which caused the original project to double in cost to the local tax paying public. Recently, the commissioner has neglected Lehigh Acres to the point where another commissioner felt compelled to publicly address the neglect.

Shawn Seliger, on the other hand is a life-long Republican who has always stood for fiscal responsibility by supporting tax cuts and county spending reductions. The county budget has been mishandled enough by the existing Commissioner Mann; Lee County citizens deserve better. Vote against financial irresponsibility and a "liberal in Republican clothing."

Fellow Lee County citizens, vote for Shawn Seliger.

I Will Never Forget...

I am pleased to see that Shawn Seliger recently launched his campaign for Lee County Commissioner, District 5.  He is the former Vice Chairman of the Lee County Republican Party and is a life-long Republican. He believes in the power of the individual, the marketplace and, most of all, freedom.  I will never forget how he stood up to local party leadership, because he believed in the importance of the right of citizens to vote in last year's District 74 selection, (which should have been an election).  Immediately after Gary Aubuchon was selected, Shawn gave him his total assistance and support.  Like Shawn, I am not fond of "May Day Manifestos" issued by individuals who call themselves Republicans.  As we may recall, the District 5 incumbent was a Democrat for most of his life, but switched political parties to change with the times.  Shawn Seliger has a moral compass and acts on principle.  He is a person who conducts himself professionally and does his homework on the issues.  He stands for fiscal responsibility, smart growth, improving transportation and environmental protection.  Please join his campaign to make Lee County better!

Seliger is Professional

This is in response to Constance Langmann's letter "Seliger lacks disposition," of July 15. I have been a local attorney for several years and I have had the privilege of working with Shawn Seliger. He is articulate, bright and respectful of others.
Mr. Seliger is a competent attorney who conducts himself with the highest degree of professionalism inside and outside of the courtroom. He is a well prepared attorney who is always respectful of courtroom decorum. I have seen Shawn in front of numerous local judges, who always seem pleased with Mr. Seliger's performance.
Ms. Langmann's letter was a politically motivated attempt to distort Shawn Seliger's professional representation as a well respected attorney in our community. Her praise of the incumbent in the letter spoke volumes as to her motives. The tasteless tactics employed in her letter will be rejected by Lee County voters on election day.

Seliger Indeed Professional

Re: "Seliger lacks disposition," Constance Langmann, July 15. As a practicing attorney of over 27 years, I am familiar with the legal work and professional demeanor of Shawn Seliger. I was Shawn's direct supervisor for approximately six months while he served as an Assistant Public Defender in our 20th Judicial Circuit. Shawn is diligent, hard-working and cares about his clients. Shawn was always well prepared and conducted himself with the highest degree of professionalism, inside and outside of the courtroom. Ms. Langmann's letter was an undeserved smear attack on Shawn Seliger's integrity.

Time for Someone New

Re: "Mann realistic and fair," William G. Mathis, July 26.
During Frank Mann's numerous political campaigns, he has collected a ton of money from developers and from the mining industry. All you have to do is look at his campaign reports from all of his prior races. Do your homework; there are a lot of races!

Ironically, when the development and mining money was pouring in to Mann's campaigns, all was wonderful for him and the "good ol' boys"as he gladly accepted their money. Now that his financial support is evaporating due to his backward politics and self-issued manifestoes, he has taken the low road by attacking Shawn Seliger for receiving a little development support, which is the size of a tse tse fly compared to all of the money that Mr. Mann received from these industries and special interest groups as a professional politician.

I like to hear the facts during the course of a political campaign.

Mr. Mathis falsely accused Shawn Seliger of mudslinging in this campaign because he is afraid to let the public hear what the radio ad factually reported; that Mr. Mann voted to raise taxes 53 times, voted against a property tax cut last year on the county commission and gave money to liberal Democrats like Al Gore! Mr. Mathis won't share this with you, I just did.

Finally, Mr. Mathis says that Shawn Seliger has a lot of nerve running this factual ad because he has only lived here for five years. Well, Mr. Mathis, how long does one need to live here and "hug the land" until he is entitled to educate the public on facts, 10, 20, 30 years? Sorry to break the news to you Mr. Mathis, but the days of the good ol' boys are over. I am glad that someone like Shawn Seliger has the nerve to talk about the real issues. He is a breath of fresh air for Lee County!

He's the One
RINO: a label for political candidates, generally Democrats and/or liberals, who register as Republicans in a locale where they know they can't be elected if they display their true political ideology.

Republicans In Name Only.

Fortunately, in Lee County we have a candidate who definitely does not fit in that category: Shawn Seliger, candidate for Lee County Commission, District 5, is one of the only candidates I know who does not fit the RINO label.

Seliger, based on his demonstrated track record, is a true conservative Republican. He believes that lower taxes, less government and sensible growth in Lee County, with consideration for the environment and business interests, are key for our rebound and success.

With others, actual past voting records speak for themselves.

In addition, Seliger is a consensus builder. I have personally witnessed Shawn's ability in negotiating and promoting a successful settlement process in Family Law Mediation, and I can tell you firsthand he is interested in a cooperative, not confrontational, form of governance. We stand to gain so much more if our commissioners work together, not in conflict, as they are presently.

Please join me in electing Seliger as the Republican candidate for Lee County Commission, District 5, on Aug. 26.
Let's make all our votes count!

Support Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment

Shawn Seliger is a candidate for Lee County Commissioner, District 5.  He is highly qualified for this position.  Shawn is active in numerous community service organizations. He believes that we can grow the economy while preserving the environment.  Shawn believes that we must improve our quality of life.

Shawn Seliger is dedicated to the cause of increased funding for mental health services and substance abuse treatment.  He offers Lee County a reasoned perspective and an open-mindedness that will be a refreshing change.  He will be a voice of civility at a time of tremendous discord on the County Commission.  A vote for Shawn Seliger is a vote for a better community in which to live.

Seliger Better

I couldn't agree more with your assessment of Frank Mann. Only I would go one step farther and suggest he is not deserving of re-election. The litany of concerns I have about Mr. Mann are numerous. But his insensitive and misogynistic comment about rape at a commission meeting last year is the most abhorrent. But instead of just being against Mann, I am for Shawn Seliger. What I have seen of Mr. Seliger is a hard-working, committed individual who is not afraid to stand up and say and do what is right. We need more people in elective office who are willing to take on the establishment and the party bosses in favor of the interests of the people. I have no doubt Shawn Seliger is that candidate and I plan to wholeheartedly support him in the Republican primary this summer.

Outrageous No-Show

I am disappointed that Frank Mann failed to appear at the Cape Coral Civic Association forum. The excuse that was given for Mr. Mann's absence was that he needed to attend a sing along in Fort Myers. This is outrageous!

Mr. Mann neglected 300 Cape Coral voters by attending a sing along instead of answering questions and listening to residents at the forum. Mr. Mann has also neglected Lehigh Acres to the point where another commissioner had to publicly address the neglect.

Let us always remember that Frank Mann opposed and delayed the Midpoint Bridge project, which caused the original project to double in cost to local taxpayers. Frank Mann's failure to appear at this forum due to his reluctance to discuss all of his tax increases and the Midpoint Bridge fiasco will not be forgotten by Lee County residents.

Shawn Seliger has my vote for Lee County commission on August 26.
